DIY Cut, Route & Polish Granite Countertops

   Granites ins allow homeowners to stamp their own style on their home without the high cost of similar materials, such as marble .      Replacings with granite can update a tired kitchen without the need for replacing every unit.s come in a variety of patterns and colors and provide a long-lasting work surface. Granite is durable, heavy and requires special tools to cut and polish if you're installing it.

Instructions as follows:                                                        

     Firstly, cut the with a rail saw and wet diamond blade. The granite should be clamped to a suitable workbench. Set the saw's guide on the granite and start the saw. Don't cut into the granite until the saw is up to speed.

    Secondly, hold the saw firmly against the granite surface and push forward slowly. The waste end of granite must be supported while cutting to prevent the granite from snapping under its own weight.

Thirdly, set the height of the edge profile to be cut and start the granite router. Use a continuous motion to push the tool forward, pressing it firmly against the granite's surface. This tool can be used for profiling decorative finishes and sink edges.

     Fourthly, polish the granite with a wet sander and sanding pad. Move the sander in seven-inch circles, making an arc across the width of the countertop . Do not apply too much pressure to the surface of the granite to avoid making deep gouges. Use a coarse pad to begin with and polish the entire surface before finishing with a fine pad.

    Tips & Warnings

     Wear protective clothing, including a dust mask, safety goggles and gloves, when cutting granite.
